In July, the City will begin reaching out to businesses whose properties may be affected by upcoming construction for the Downtown Loop project. Impacted property owners will receive letters outlining potential effects on their property, such as the need to temporarily access part of the property or permanently use a small portion to complete the project.
This process, known as right-of-way (ROW) acquisition, is a common step in public infrastructure projects. It ensures the City has legal access to the land needed to make improvements such as adding a crossing location or installing new ADA ramps. Depending on the situation, the City may request either a temporary easement (short-term access), permanent easement (long-term use) and/or fee take (complete ownership of the property).
The letter will include project contact information, details about the acquisition process and will outline if the City needs to purchase an easement and/or street right-of-way from the property owner. All ROW services are being managed by Commonstreet Consulting, a firm certified to meet state and federal requirements.
